Next Steps for the National Nanotechnology Initiative Volume 1, Issue 1
Authors: Tom Kalil, University of California-Berkeley
Abstract:
The National Nanotechnology Initiative has been highly successful at increasing federal funding for nanoscale science and engineering, and at serving as a catalyst for additional investment by states, firms, venture capitalists, and foreign governments. In this article, Thomas Kalil argues that although private sector investment in nanotechnology will soon swamp the federal government's level of investment, increased funding for the NNI is needed to realize the full potential of nanoscale science and engineering. He also identifies a number of specific areas where he believes increased investment is needed.
