European Commission Action Plan on Nanotechnologies: A Brief Presentation with a View on Intellectual Property

Abstract:
On June 7, 2005, the European Commission ( EC ) adopted an Action Plan for the implementation of a strategy for European nanoscience and nanotechnology development. In this article, Jerome Collin explains the most important features of the Action Plan and their implications for nanotechnology development, commercialization and application in Europe. In particular, Mr. Collin outlines the Action Plan's efforts to improve the review of nanotechnology patents in Europe, such as the creation of a special classification tag for patent applications relating to nanotechnology.
