Abstract:
While water covers some 70% of the Earth’s surface, the world faces a shortage of supply of fresh
water in the coming years. The shortage of fresh water is already very real in many parts of the world,
particularly in developing countries. In this article, John Loncto, Marlan Walker and Lynn Foster
explain the crucial role that nanotechnology will play with regard to increasing the availability of clean
and reliable water sources. The authors present this explanation in the context of nanotechnology’s role
within four key water industry segments: monitoring, desalinization, purification and wastewater treatment.
