Top Ten Politicians Involved in Nanotechnology

Abstract:
There are a variety of policy and regulatory issues associated with nanotechnology. Nanoscale
materials and devices pose new challenges to agencies such as the EPA, FDA, PTO, and
agencies responsible for administering export control laws. Additionally, at this stage, federal
funding is critical to nanoscale science and engineering. The far reaching potential of nanotech to
transform the world renders it dependent upon government nurturing for survival. In this issue, we
identify ten key politicians involved in addressing the regulatory and policy issues associated with
nanotechnology. The list is not based on any measurable criteria. It is an attempt to highlight ten key
political players and describe their relevant activities.
