The investment euphoria for nanotechnology from several years ago has been replaced with a new excitement for clean technology. In many cases, the investments made in engineered nanomaterials are enabling “clean tech” stories such as thin film solar, advanced lithium ion batteries, and water purification. In this article, a team of corporate lawyers explains how nanotechnology is likely to attract significant interest in the public markets under the umbrella of clean technology. They highlight the proposed A123Systems IPO as an example of the convergence of nanotechnology and clean technology.
