The GoodNanoGuide: A Novel Approach for Developing Good Practices for Handling Engineered Nanomaterials in an Occupational Setting
Volume 6, Issue 1

Kristen M. Kulinowski, International Council on Nanotechnology,
Matthew P. Jaffe, Crowell & Moring, LLP

The International Council on Nanotechnology’s (“ICON”) recent survey of current practices for identifying, managing and reducing risks for the production, handling, use and disposal of nanomaterials confirmed that organizations involved in the nanotechnology industry “believe there are special risks related to the nanomaterials they work with.” ICON’s survey further found that these organizations are “actively seeking additional information on how to best handle nanomaterials.” In this article, Dr. Kristen Kulinowski, ICON’s Director, together with Matthew Jaffe, a lawyer with Crowell & Moring, LLP, describe ICON’s newest project—the “GoodNanoGuide”—an Internet-based collaboration platform specially designed to enhance the ability of experts in the field to exchange ideas about the development of these good practices. They discuss how the GoodNanoGuide evolved and how it will establish an interactive forum that will provide up-to-date information on good practices for handling engineered nanomaterials in an occupational setting.
