Bridging Technical and Political Analysis: A Review of Military Nanotechnology Volume 6, Issue 1
Authors: Ruben Serrato, Nanotechnology Law & Business
Abstract:
Jürgen Altmann’s Military Nanotechnology attempts to bridge the divide between human and technical insight in order to make policy prescriptions for addressing future nanotechnology growth. This is a valuable goal especially in the high stakes area of military applications. Generally speaking Altmann is well qualified in both technical and political matters. He is a Ph.D. in physics who has worked as a policy analyst. His book is well researched and well written. Altmann’s technical analysis also effectively separates real applications coming in the ten to twenty year timeframe from the range of theoretical possibilities opened up by molecular nan
otechnology. However, Altmann’s failure to confine his policy recommendations to the real world technical applications he identifies undermines his effort.
