Ten Lessons Learned By the First Generation of Nanotech Entrepreneurs

Over the last decade, substantial amounts of capital have been invested into nanotech start-ups. Notwithstanding the incredible potential of nanotechnology, there have been relatively few blockbuster products or companies. Indeed, the road to commercialization of engineered nanomaterials has proven more difficult than many investors and entrepreneurs anticipated. In this issue, we highlight the top ten lessons learned by the first generation of nanotech entrepreneurs. The list is based on feedback from members of the journal’s editorial board involved in nanotech commercialization.
