The recent announcement of Nanosys’ Series E financing and strategic alliance with Samsung has invoked considerable discussion, excitement, praise and incredulousness from the nanotechnology community. This frustrated entrepreneur embarks on an analysis and semi-structured, marginally coherent rant about why getting a new nanotechnology off the ground is so difficult, the importance of thinking about manufacturing early in the life of a start-up, the growing role of Asian money in deal structures and why the nanotech investment world is really, really messed up.
