Who Gives a Sheet About Graphene? Volume 10, Issue 2
Authors: Paul Smith
Abstract:
What makes graphene so different from other materials? Why is there a “land-grab” going on in graphene-related patent activity? In this article, attorney Paul Smith describes how graphene is easily adaptable to a wide variety of applications, including fuel cells, catalysts, optical displays, and other electronic devices. However, because graphene, as a single sheet of carbon atoms, has a relatively simple structure, much of the patent territory underlying the graphene cross-roads has already been claimed. To explain the uniqueness of a new graphene invention, practioners will need a detailed understanding of both graphene technology and the landscape of the technical field in which the new graphene invention lies.
