Nanotechnology Standards: A Foundation for Innovation Volume 2, Issue 3
Authors: American National Standards Institute
Abstract:
As advances in nanotechnology sprout from electronics and biology into wholly original applications in medicine, textiles, food processing and engineering, standards in nanotechnology are emerging as a critical component of both competitiveness and commercialization. In this article, the American National Standards Institute explains the current effort to establish workable standards to facilitate the further development and commercialization of nanotechnology. The standards coordination currently underway includes, but is not limited to, nomenclature/terminology, materials properties and testing, and measurement and characterization procedures. As nanotechnology continues to advance, these standards activities will adapt as necessary. For now, they are laying a foundation for the innovation that is bound to come.
